Briana Brown
Originally from rural Ontario, Briana Brown spent several years in Toronto after graduating from York University (B.A. Theatre Studies), and is currently completing her M.F.A. in creative writing at the University of British Columbia. Her plays have been widely workshopped. In the 2010–2011 season, she was the Program Director for the Paprika Festival’s Playwrights in Residence Program. Her one-act play Cassandra toured Fringe Festivals in London, Ottawa, Victoria, and Vancouver in the summer of 2006, with a second production at the London Fringe in 2010. The play was also included as part of Winnipeg’s FemFest in 2007. In 2009, Briana was commissioned by SeriousFUN! Theatre Company to develop a script based on the experiences of the ten young women in their company’s Going Pro program, entitled The Line. As a director, she has assisted Brad Fraser on the Canadian premiere of True Love Lies (Factory Theatre), and has directed productions at the Theatre Passe Muraille’s Buzz Festival, the Toronto Fringe, HotScrawls festival, the New Ideas Festival, the Paprika Festival (Tenth Anniversary Celebration, 2010), and V-Day Toronto (The Vagina Monologues, 2009). Almost, Again debuted at the Toronto Fringe Festival in 2010 and went on to be included in the Best of Fringe under Briana’s direction.
